A Visit from the Fam

We started off our Christmas break with the most amazing visit from my parents. The kids were beyond excited to see their Grr Grr and Papa and Rob and I loved showing them around Grenada. We went a thousand miles a minute all week long and had a complete blast.

They got to Grenada on Sunday night. The kids were already asleep so Sara came over and watched our kids so that Rob and I could both go and get them from the airport. Monday morning the kids woke up  in complete joy to their grandparents and of course a grandparent's load of presents. After breakfast, we showed them around our beautiful neighborhood by walking to the rock outlook to see the tide pools and then to the beach with a dock to look for the sting ray. Due to the lovely Grenadian rain, I had to shift around some of our activities for Monday, but we headed to St. George to show them the market and then walked up to Fort George.
After some serious Native Fruit Smoothies we took off for Annandale Falls, chatted with some monkeys, had a picnic and jumped in the falls.

Tuesday we took it a little slower and went for a morning of snorkeling and sunbathing at Magazine Beach. I didn't bring my camera to the beach but it was a great day with blue skies and clear waters. Later we gave them a tour of SGU's Campus and then to one of our favorite restaurants, Umbrellas for dinner.

Wednesday was the last day the the Playgroup would be open for the kiddos, so we took that opportunity to do some not-so-easy-with-two-kids activities including a drive halfway around the island to Belmont Estates Cocoa Plantation. What a cool place. We got to see step by step (and taste by taste) how cocoa is harvested and made into chocolate. It was very interesting to see how much effort it takes to make cocoa. Our guide was wonderful. At one point my dad mentioned that he wanted some star fruit so our guide rand up a hill, climbed a tree and picked him some. After our tour we ate at native food buffet, which was the nicest meal we had all week and was delicious.

On our way back home we stopped at Mt. Carmel Falls. This is the highest falls in Grenada and one of my favorite places. My mom and Rob braved the slide rock and my dad did some cliff jumping. I was impressed because my mom didn't hesitate for one second on the rock slide but just went for it. Rob had a blast too. I wore a pair of shorts that I had already ripped so I didn't have to sacrifice yet another pair of shorts. It really was a peacefully, enjoyable day. I am glad we got a little alone time with my parents to just hang out and relax.

Thursday we devoted the day to one of our favorite beaches in the world, La Sagesse (La Sa Jess). We spent the day sunbathing, splashing in the waves, building sandcastles, sipping smoothies and kayaking out into the ocean. After a day at the beach Rick's Pizza was the perfect stop for dinner.

Later that day my Dad was so inspired by the many men walking around with machetes and went and bought one. Rob and him took it to the backyard for some coconuts.

Our last day we wanted to take them to Grand Etang and Seven Sisters. We didn't have any luck finding monkey's at Grand Etang because there were so many people there but we did get to show them Crater Lake and dance to come local music.

Grand Etang had quite a few people jumping in the falls and we joined in on the fun. Both Rob and I jumped off the lower falls (which proved to be much easier without shoes on). We ate our picnic lunch in a secluded area while my Dad reclined on some rocks and Luke fed the fish. Seven Sisters is one of those places in the world that I could sit at for hours. The falls are beautiful and the green forrest walls tower up to the sky.

Wow, so that was our week in one really long blog post. We are so grateful for my parents and all their love, support and generosity. We had a ton of fun taking them all over Grenada and showing them it's beauty and culture. Any one else gonna come visit before we come home???
