{old} York

A few weekends ago we ventured out to York, which is about an hour train ride from Newcastle. What a beautiful city. The weather was perfect (we even got to take off our coats for a few pictures) and we were pleasantly surprised because our kids were very well behaved the entire day. Once off the train our eyes were immediately drawn to York Minster, what a stunning cathedral. I was in awe and took a ridiculous amount of pictures.

Inside, the elaborate stain glass, high arched ceilings and massive organ left us with kinks in our necks from looking up in amazement. One of the highlights of our trip was catching the minster choir practicing. They sounded angelic with the acoustics of the minster and the female soloist's voice was so beautiful, both Rob and I were completely moved.
As we meandered through the Shambles, we caught many amazing Buskers including a man eating fire, trash can drum line and a Ukulele band. Great free entertainment (minus the spare change Luke always runs up and puts in their hats).
The York Castle is this small round structure set atop this steep little hill in the middle of the city. The hill is famous for being covered in Yellow Daffodils and it did not disappoint.
We also enjoyed some delicious food, of course, a Yorkshire Pudding and roasted turkey from the York Hog Roast. Then we finished the meal with some delectable pastries from Patisserie Valerie.
We headed back to the train station along the original city wall. It is at least 12 feet high and only has railings in certain areas. Slightly thrilling, had great views and wrapped up our day in York.

It's gorgeous there! I love the daffodils. Were they planted or do they grow naturally??? Beautiful!
